Police have recovered the bodies of a 22-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter from their home in Dhupuria village, Anaitara union, Mirzapur upazila, Tangail. The incident came to light around 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
The woman has been identified as Konika Akter, wife of mason Rajib Hossain of the same village.
Police and local residents said the couple married about six years ago and had experienced ongoing domestic disputes. On Thursday night, Rajib left for Sylhet. The following morning, Konika reportedly tried to leave for her parents’ home with her daughter but was allegedly prevented from doing so by her in-laws.
After being brought back home, Konika went inside a room with her daughter and locked the door. Locals later heard the child crying from inside. When they broke down the door, both the mother and child were found dead.
Local residents suspect the deaths may be linked to domestic tensions, though police said the exact circumstances have not been established.
Mirzapur police station officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mamun said the cause of the child’s death and the full circumstances of the incident will be determined after investigation. The bodies have been sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy.
