India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has attempted to push six people illegally into Bangladesh across the Mahespur border in Jhenaidah. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), however, took immediate steps and repelled the attempt.
The information was given in a press release signed on Saturday by the commanding officer of the Mahespur battalion (58 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Md Rafiqul Alam.
The incident took place at about 5:10 a.m. at the gate near border pillar 55/MP of Samanta BOP, under the Mahespur battalion (58 BGB).
The release said members of the Singamora camp of the opposing 59 BSF Battalion tried to push a total of six unidentified people — four men and two women — illegally into Bangladesh. As soon as the incident came to the notice of the Samanta BOP patrol team, BGB members quickly took position at the scene and barred those people from entering Bangladesh. Because of the BGB’s immediate and firm stance, the BSF’s push-in attempt failed.
The release further said the six people are currently positioned about 20 yards inside India from the border zero line. The matter has already been conveyed to the BSF for necessary action.
The commanding officer of the Mahespur battalion (58 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Md Rafiqul Alam, said the force is discharging its duty with the utmost alertness and professionalism to prevent illegal entry, push-ins and cross-border crime of any kind. Patrols, surveillance and operational activities are continuing to ensure border security, he said.
