Iran has warned the United States against any “reckless move” over the weekend, saying that if US forces again strike Iranian targets as President Donald Trump has threatened, it will respond forcefully.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued the warning in separate telephone conversations on Saturday with senior officials from Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

A few hours before Araghchi’s warning, Kuwait’s army claimed it had shot down a drone fired by Iran, saying Iran had launched a drone attack targeting several key installations in Kuwait. The claim could not be independently verified.

Speaking with Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Araghchi said Iran would respond firmly and forcefully to any aggression.

On his Telegram account, Araghchi said he had also discussed the possible consequences of the United States’ “destabilising actions” and the risk that they could further increase insecurity in the region.

Later, in a conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Araghchi said Iran would give an “equal response” to any attack by the United States and Israel, or to the participation of any regional country in such a move.

Meanwhile, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump on Saturday. The crown prince “expressed concern” about the United States’ plans regarding Iran and “sought a detailed explanation”, the news outlet Axios reported, citing a US official.

Nournews, an outlet linked to Iran’s top security body, said on Saturday that if the United States struck Iran’s energy infrastructure, Iran would attack the oil fields of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the gas fields of Qatar and Israel.

Everything would be “burned to ash”, the Nournews report said.

At a cabinet meeting at Camp David on Friday, Trump said he believed US negotiators would still be able to reach a settlement with Iran. The US negotiating team includes Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

But Trump also said his trust in Iran was steadily declining, accusing Iran of repeatedly breaking its promises and saying he would strike again if necessary. Iran has long made the same accusation against the United States.
