Acting president to begin office work from Tuesday

The country’s Acting President and Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, will formally begin official work at Bangabhaban from Tuesday. This will be the start of his regular office work at Bangabhaban since taking over the president’s responsibilities.

A member of the BNP’s media cell, Shairul Kabir Khan, gave the information.

It has been learned that as acting president he will discharge his state and constitutional duties from Bangabhaban. His official residence, however, will remain the Speaker’s official residence on the Jatiya Sangsad grounds. He will come from there to Bangabhaban as needed to conduct official work.

With the office of president vacant, the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, is serving as acting president under the constitution. Since he took charge, the necessary administrative and security preparations have been completed for running his office at Bangabhaban.

Speaking to journalists earlier, the acting president said that although he will work at Bangabhaban, he will stay at the Speaker’s official residence. At the same time, special security arrangements on the pattern of presidential security have been stepped up to ensure his safety on the parliament grounds.

From Tuesday the acting president will carry out at Bangabhaban the signing of important state documents, his constitutional duties, meetings with representatives of various bodies and other formal activities.
