A young man named Nafiz Sheikh, 18, was killed and another rider, Sumon Sheikh, 19, was critically injured after their motorcycle lost control and struck a roadside railing in Bhanga, Faridpur.
The accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, at the Bhanga Bishwa Road roundabout on the Bhanga-Mawa-Dhaka Expressway.
The deceased, Nafiz, was the son of Jahangir Sheikh of Hazrakanda village, Gharua union, Bhanga upazila. The injured Sumon Sheikh, son of Delwar Sheikh, is from the same village.
According to police and witnesses, Nafiz and Sumon were riding their motorcycle from the Bishwa Road roundabout in the wrong direction, toward Maligram. While overtaking an auto-rickshaw ahead of them, the motorcycle lost control and struck a roadside railing with considerable force, critically injuring both riders.
After being alerted, Bhanga Highway Police and local residents rescued the two men and took them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared Nafiz dead. Sumon, critically injured, was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Dr Sohag Mia, medical officer at Bhanga Upazila Health and Family Planning, confirmed the incident.
