Burkina Faso’s military said it repelled a large-scale coordinated attack by armed rebel groups on multiple military positions, killing at least 400 fighters in airstrikes.

Chief of the General Staff Major General Moussa Diallo announced the figures. In a late-night statement on Wednesday, the military said the attacks targeted positions of the national armed forces and the Homeland Defense Volunteers in Sirba’s Gayeri area and Liptako’s Solhan and Sebba on June 30.

Ground forces launched an immediate counteroffensive with air support, the statement said. Targeted airstrikes and ground operations killed more than 400 attackers.

The military said it seized more than 250 motorcycles, 353 weapons of various types, ammunition, and communications equipment. Three soldiers were killed in the fighting — two in Solhan and one in Gayeri, the statement said.

Operations are continuing to track down fleeing attackers and ensure the safety of local residents, the military said, calling on citizens to cooperate with security forces and report suspicious individuals.

The statement linked the coordinated attacks to Burkina Faso’s recent decision to sever diplomatic ties with France, accusing France of supporting the armed groups. No evidence was presented to support the claim. Sources: Anadolu, TRT World.
