Copies of the book Nexus, given as gifts at a reception for Bangladeshi hafezes who won prizes at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Holy Quran Competition held in Saudi Arabia, have been taken back. The state minister for religious affairs, Mohammad Shamim Kaiser, took the books back from the prize-winning hafezes at his office on Sunday afternoon (September 20).

The information came in a press release signed by the religious affairs ministry’s public relations officer, Md Farhad Ahmed.

The release said the copies of Nexus given as gifts to the winning hafezes had been taken back on the prime minister’s instruction.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a reception on Thursday for the hafezes who won the international Quran competition, in the meeting room of the cabinet division at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Copies of Nexus were given to the winners at that event along with various other gifts.

On the recovery of the books, the state minister for religious affairs, Mohammad Shamim Kaiser, said steps had been taken quickly on the prime minister’s instruction and the copies of Nexus given to the winning hafezes had been taken back. He also said the government’s work was continuing on delivering the commitments announced for the winning hafezes at the reception, including international travel and assistance.

Restating the prime minister’s announcement, the state minister said the government would give the necessary support for participation in future international Quran competitions and events of that kind. He said the participation of Bangladesh’s hafezes in these international competitions was creating an opportunity to bring honour and glory to the country and its people.

The winning hafezes Muhammad Zakaria, Sheikh Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan Ashrafi, Rabita Binte Ramadan and Musfira Binte Mahmud were present, along with their teachers.
