French ambassador holds courtesy talks with opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

The French Ambassador to Bangladesh, Jean-Marc Sere-Charle, met with opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP for courtesy talks at the opposition leader’s office in the National Parliament building on Thursday (June 25) at 11:30am. French Embassy political attaché Emilie Palauan was also present.

According to a Jamaat central publicity department press release, the meeting was conducted in a cordial, friendly and warm atmosphere. Discussions covered Bangladesh’s post-election political situation, the strengthening of democratic and constitutional institutions, the human rights situation, Bangladesh-France bilateral relations, and trade and economic cooperation.

Good governance and accountability were highlighted as priorities. The meeting also discussed the responsibility of all stakeholders to combat corruption and establish the rule of law in order to attract foreign investment.

The opposition leader praised the long-standing diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and France and called on France to continue supporting Bangladesh’s overall development. The two sides expressed hope that the existing friendship between the two countries would continue to deepen.
