After completing the wedding formalities, Ahmed Anas Bappi, 22, had brought his bride home Thursday afternoon. Friday was to be the reception. But that joy did not last. Late at night, Anas died of electrocution while trying to move a stand fan.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. Thursday night, August 20, in the Gacher Diyar Schoolpara area of Hoglabaria union, in Kushtia’s Daulatpur upazila.
The deceased, Anas, was the son of Yusuf Ali of that area.
According to family and local sources, Anas’s marriage to Saira Khatun, daughter of Saiful Islam of the Baheramadi Alinagar area in the upazila’s Philipnagar union, was solemnized roughly two months ago. On Thursday afternoon, Saira was formally brought to Anas’s home. A reception centered on the new bride had been planned for Friday afternoon. Work on preparing the dining area and pandal for guests had been under way at the house until late into the night.
Anas himself was present, overseeing the work. Around 2:00 a.m., he was accidentally electrocuted while trying to move a stand fan. Family members quickly rushed him to Kushtia Sadar Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead.
Local union parishad (UP) member Milon Hossain said: “Anas died after being electrocuted by a stand fan. His marriage had been solemnized roughly two months ago. His bride was brought home on Thursday. The reception was supposed to be held on Friday. In the middle of all that, this accident has turned all the joy to dust.”
Daulatpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying: “Police were sent to the scene after being alerted. This is an extremely tragic matter. Police are monitoring the overall situation.”
