Police in Bagerhat’s Chitalmari have arrested a man named Parimal Bhakta (46) on the charge of raping a six-year-old girl, a first-grade student. After the child’s father filed a case as complainant on Tuesday (9 June), police arrested the accused and sent him to court. The child was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for medical examination. The arrested man is the son of the late Girish Chandra Bhakta of Jhalodanga village in the upazila.
According to the case, at noon on Sunday (7 June) the child — a first-grader at a local government primary school — went to call on a neighbouring classmate for private tuition. Parimal Bhakta allegedly forced her inside a room, shut the door and raped her. Rokeya Khanom, serving as Chitalmari police officer-in-charge (OC-operations), confirmed the case.
