An allegation has been raised that a two-month-old infant died of wrong treatment at the Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex in Chattogram. On Sunday, June 21, the child’s father submitted a written complaint over the incident to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).

According to the complaint, the father had admitted his two-month-old child — who was suffering from pneumonia — to the upazila health complex at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. The patient remained stable until about 1:30 p.m. the next day, Sunday, but died within 15 minutes after a nurse, without the doctor’s permission, administered an injection, the complaint said. The nurse accused in the complaint could not be traced afterwards.

The child’s father demanded legal action against the on-duty doctor and the nurse. A tense situation was said to have developed at the hospital after the incident.

Dr Muminul Haque, the resident medical officer (RMO) of Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex, said the child had died after one day under treatment. Robiul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Banshkhali police station, said police had been deployed at the hospital after tension arose over the child’s death at the upazila health complex.
