Important information about the viva, or oral examination, of the BCS examination for recruitment to government jobs has been given in the national parliament. The minister in charge of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) Secretariat, Md Abdul Bari, said that, with the aim of making the BCS viva process more transparent and free of corruption, the total marks for the viva would remain at 100 instead of 200.

The minister gave the information on Sunday, June 21, in reply to a question from Abdul Hannan Masud, member of parliament for the Noakhali-6 constituency, on the 11th day of the second session of the 13th National Parliament.

The minister said the rule had been brought into effect through a special notification (SRO No. 412-AI/2024) issued by the Public Administration Ministry on December 11, 2024. The viva marks were revised under the table of sub-rule (1) of Rule 18 of that notification. The oral examination is being held under this new 100-mark rule from the ongoing 47th BCS.

The minister further said that the 48th and 49th BCS, known as special BCS examinations, had also been held with a 100-mark oral examination. This had been done under a special provision of the revised ‘Bangladesh Civil Service (Age, Qualification and Examination for Direct Recruitment) Rules, 2014,’ published on May 27, 2025. The 100-mark oral examination system would remain in force in the upcoming 50th BCS and all subsequent BCS examinations. The government’s decision, he said, would make the BCS examination more transparent, dynamic and free of discrimination.
