Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup in Kahalu upazila, Bogura. The accident happened around 10 am on Saturday (1 August) in the Kazipara area on the Bogura-Naogaon highway in Kahalu upazila.
One of the four dead has been identified. He is Lutfor Rahman, 50, a fish trader and son of Toyob Ali of Raghabpur village in Mymensingh Sadar upazila. The identities of the other three have not yet been confirmed; they are said to have been the pickup’s driver, its helper and a fish trader.
Kahalu police station officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam said several traders had taken fish by pickup from Mymensingh to Naogaon. On the way back on Saturday morning, while overtaking another vehicle in the Kazipara area, the pickup collided head-on with a freight truck heading towards Naogaon.
He said the front of the pickup was crushed in the collision and the driver, the helper and two fish traders died on the spot.
After the accident the truck’s driver and his assistant fled. When traffic on the highway came to a halt, Kahalu police and fire service personnel reached the scene, removed the two vehicles and recovered the bodies.
OC Shafiqul Islam said efforts were being made to contact Lutfor Rahman’s family and that work to identify the other three was under way.
