DHAKA — Ibtedayi madrasas will be brought under the primary education system in the coming days, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said Thursday.

Hajjaj made the comments at a citizens’ dialogue in the capital on government priorities and the education sector titled “Budget and Reality,” on May 7.

The minister said the government was not starting the program immediately because it had its own house to put in order first. The education system had been weakened over the past several years and needed significant repair, he said, and it would be difficult to take on a bigger responsibility before that repair work was done.

“We are trying to make repairs one step at a time,” Hajjaj said. “But I can confirm that in the coming days we will bring all education for those under 10 years old under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, meaning we are working to bring everything to a similar curriculum standard, and God willing, this will happen in the future.”
