CHUADANGA — Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer and Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said elections must be held under the proportional representation (PR) system after necessary reforms.
Karim said opponents of the PR system “cannot sleep” after hearing it might be adopted. “They have become restless. Fascist Hasina did not know even three hours in advance that she would have to flee the country,” he said. “When Allah drove out such a powerful killer and liberated this country, we do not believe by Allah’s grace another fascist, another killer or another money launderer will come.”
He said visible killers, oppressors and money launderers must be tried first, after which necessary reforms should be completed and elections held under the PR system.
Karim spoke as chief guest at a rally organized by Islami Andolan Bangladesh on Monday evening, July 28, at the Chuadanga Town Hall football ground.
He said Islami Andolan Bangladesh speaks for humanity and has never been used as a ladder by killers, extortionists or money launderers.
“This country was held hostage by a few people from one party. Even when there was a desire to make the country better, their actions prevented the environment for it,” he said. “After Aug. 5, that environment has emerged. In the past, the constitution was changed for personal and party gain. That is why the electoral system needs to be changed, considering the country’s interests rather than any party’s.”
That change is the PR voting system, Karim said. Under PR voting, voters will be valued, and fascists will not get another chance to come back no matter how often they try, he said. Those who once put personal and party interests above the country’s do not understand the PR system, he said.
“They ask: do you eat the PR system or wear it on your head? We will say: you neither eat it nor wear it on your head,” he said. “Through the PR system, this country will be better. Humanity will benefit. People’s rights will be realized.”
He told those who do not understand the PR system to speak with their party in mind. Under PR voting, thousands of brothers cannot be suppressed with false cases, he said.
“We were born in this country. It is our responsibility to make it better. There will be no place for extortionists on Bengali soil. Our country’s money cannot be allowed to be laundered abroad,” Karim said.
The rally was chaired by Muhammad Hasanuzzaman Sajib, president of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh Chuadanga district branch. Special guests included central joint secretary general Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman; central presidium member Professor Mahbubur Rahman; Khulna divisional organizing secretary Mufti Mostafa Kamal; Chuadanga-2 Jamaat parliamentary candidate and district Ameer Ruhul Amin; Chuadanga-1 Jamaat parliamentary candidate and district assistant secretary Advocate Masud Parvez Rasel; Chuadanga district Khelafat Majlis president Mufti Soaib Hossain Kasemi; Jatiya Nagorik Party chief coordinator Khwaja Amirul Bashar Biplab; Jatiya Shikkhok Forum Chuadanga district president Mohammad Hasanuzzaman Roni; and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Chuadanga district secretary Maulana Mahbubur Rahman Gauhari, among others.
