The government has formed a high-level committee to work toward the quick and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya nationals sheltering in Bangladesh. The prime minister himself will serve as chair of the committee, named the “National Strategy Formulation Committee on Rohingya Affairs.”
A notification forming the committee was issued by the cabinet division on Sunday (July 12). The 11-member committee was formed with a combination of various important government ministries and top officials of law-enforcement and intelligence agencies.
According to the notification, the prime minister will lead the committee as its chair. Its members also include the home minister, the foreign minister, the adviser to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, and the adviser to the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces Division.
The principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) will serve as the committee’s “chief coordinator,” while the director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) will act as its member secretary.
Other members include the inspector general of police, the director general of the NSI, the director general of the BGB and the director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Five senior officials have also been assigned to assist the committee on field-level and strategic matters.
