England captain Harry Kane surpassed Brazil legend Pele’s 12 World Cup goals with a match-winning brace against DR Congo in the round of 32, writing another historic chapter on football’s grandest stage.

Kane entered the match with 11 World Cup goals. His equalizer in the 75th minute drew him level with Pele at 12, and his superb winner in the 86th minute took him to 13 — tying him with France’s legendary Just Fontaine.

In the all-time World Cup scoring table, Lionel Messi leads with 19 goals, followed by Kylian Mbappe with 18, Miroslav Klose with 16, Ronaldo Nazario with 15, and Gerd Muller with 14. Kane and Fontaine now share sixth place with 13.

The brace was not just a personal milestone — it rescued England from defeat. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Three Lions turned the match around through their captain’s goals to win 2-1 and secure their place in the round of 16.

The 32-year-old striker has five goals in the current tournament, placing him just behind Messi and Mbappe in the Golden Boot race. The longer England’s campaign continues, the greater his chance of climbing higher on the all-time list.
