RANGAMATI — The Bangladesh Army distributed sports equipment to a youth club in Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati on Wednesday under a program aimed at promoting peace, harmony and development in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The Army’s Naniarchar Zone (17 East Bengal Regiment) handed over the equipment at its zonal office on the morning of April 29, officials said. Naniarchar Zone Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Mashiur Rahman distributed the items, including cricket bats, thigh pads, helmets, cricket balls, batting gloves and kit bags, to Md. Rafiqul Islam, president of the Burighat Youth Club.

Mashiur Rahman said the Bangladesh Army remains committed to sustaining peace, harmony and development activities in the country’s hill regions, and that such public-welfare programs will continue. He said the equipment was distributed to encourage local youth to take up sports and engage in healthy, creative activities.

Maj. Sheikh Mohammad Naeem, the zone’s deputy commander, was also present at the event.
