DEX News: Alarming theft incidents have occurred at the campus of Kazi Nazrul Islam University, raising concerns among students and administrators. In just 17 days, three separate incidents involving three thieves have been reported, creating an atmosphere of unease.

On Thursday (May 8) night, a youth was caught by students attempting to steal a gas cylinder from a mess adjacent to the university’s Charudeep area. He was later handed over to the Proctorial Body.

Earlier, on April 19, a young man named Salman Rafi was arrested by History Department Professor Md. Zillur Hossain for stealing a water cooler from the auditorium of the university’s new arts building. He was later handed over to the Trishal Police Station.

Three days later, on April 22, another youth was caught in the same area attempting to steal. These consecutive incidents have instilled fear among students, especially those residing in hostels and academic buildings, who are now demanding enhanced security measures.

Students allege that inadequate night patrolling and unrestricted entry for outsiders are contributing factors to the thefts. They warn that without prompt action on security, more unpleasant incidents could occur in the future.

The university administration has assured students of strengthened security measures on campus. However, despite multiple attempts to contact him for further comment, University Proctor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman did not receive the call.
