An easy-bike driver named Joy has been stabbed and his vehicle taken about 300 yards from the police station in Dhunat, Bogura.
The incident took place at about 8pm on Saturday (September 19).
The easy-bike driver Joy is the son of Johurul Islam of Banshhata village in the upazila.
Johurul Islam said three unidentified young men posing as passengers hired Joy’s easy-bike from Dhunat bazar at about 7.30pm on Saturday. At about 8pm, on the paved road about 300 yards south of Dhunat police station, the three stopped the easy-bike, tied Joy’s mouth with a cloth, stabbed him repeatedly on the head and elsewhere on the body with a sharp knife and took the vehicle away.
Local people later rescued Joy in a critical condition and admitted him to the Dhunat health complex.
He has lodged a written complaint at Dhunat police station over the incident.
The stabbing of a driver and the theft of his easy-bike beside the police station has given local people particular cause for thought.
Contacted about it, Dhunat police officer-in-charge Atiqul Islam acknowledged the incident and said: “Efforts are under way to recover the stolen easy-bike and arrest those who took it.”
