Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep concern over what it called a severe deterioration in law and order across the country, including Dhaka. The party alleged that the administration had failed to take effective action despite open extortion, attacks, land grabbing and looting.
Party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar described the recent situation at a news conference on Monday evening. He said unprecedented violent acts had occurred in Dhaka and other parts of the country over the past several days, placing people’s lives and property under severe threat.
Citing recent incidents, Jamaat said attackers entered a health center in Mirpur, demolished the building and looted property. Armed assailants also attacked, vandalized and robbed content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio in the ECB Chattar area. The party also cited an attempted land grab in Mohammadpur, the killing of a businessperson in Rajshahi, a midnight attack on a hospital in Naya Paltan and consecutive looting at 21 homes in Kushtia, saying people nationwide were living in deep anxiety.
The party further alleged that the influence and internal disputes of those in power over local markets, extortion, fertilizer dealerships and various public services were worsening law and order. It said law enforcement agencies were often acting as silent spectators instead of taking effective action.
Criticizing the Home Ministry and the administration for failing to maintain law and order, Jamaat called for an immediate end to all land grabbing and extortion. It also demanded the rapid identification and prosecution of those involved in the recent attacks.
