Two schoolboys drowned while bathing in the Turag River in Tongi, Gazipur. The incident occurred around 11am on Sunday in the Mirashpara Nadibandor area.
Fire service divers recovered their bodies from the river.
The boys, aged 11 and 13, were from the East Arichpur area of Tongi and studied at Tongi Sirajuddin High School in grades 5 and 7 respectively. They had gone to the river to bathe with a group of friends, police said.
Tongi Fire Service commander Shaheen Alam said divers recovered the two schoolboys’ bodies from the Turag River after receiving the report.
Nadibandor police outpost inspector Firoz Mia said police visited the scene and legal proceedings are underway.
