The High Court has granted bail to Momtaz Begum, a singer and former lawmaker of the ousted Awami League (whose activities are banned), in three cases.
A High Court bench of Justice Md. Khairul Alam and Justice A.K.M. Rabiul Hasan granted her bail on Monday, June 15.
Senior lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju appeared for the petition in court.
He said the High Court had granted the singer bail in two murder cases and one attempted-murder case.
These include the killing of Moniruzzaman in Ashulia, the killing of Sagar in Mirpur and another attempted-murder case in Ashulia.
Momtaz was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on May 12 last year from a house behind Star Kabab in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Singer Momtaz Begum last contested the 12th national parliamentary election from the Manikganj-2 seat. She ran on the Awami League’s boat symbol. But Momtaz could not prevail in that election, losing to independent candidate Dewan Zahid Ahmed (Tulu).
