A complaint has been made that a schoolgirl studying in class eight was abducted in Tahirpur, Sunamganj. Almost two months after the incident, police have for unexplained reasons been unable either to recover the victim or to bring those involved within the law.
The abducted schoolgirl is a class eight examinee at Tahirpur Girls’ High School and College in the upazila. BD Global Times is not naming her because she is a child.
Her father, Sakil Parvez, 36, a resident of Ujan Tahirpur village in Tahirpur sadar union, filed a case at Tahirpur police station on Sunday, August 2, seeking the recovery of his daughter and the prosecution of Sheikh Mohsin Elin Pasha and the other accused. The case number is 1/26. The disappearance itself took place earlier, on July 26.
According to the complaint, Sheikh Mohsin Elin Pasha had been harassing the schoolgirl in various ways, including making indecent proposals, on her way to and from school. She told her family about it. When her father then raised the matter with Mohsin Elin Pasha’s family, they took their son’s side and behaved in an angry and offensive manner instead.
The complaint says that on July 26 the girl left home at 9.30am to go to school, and that on the way she was abducted from the Tahirpur-Sunamganj road and taken to an unknown place by Sheikh Mohsin Elin Pasha, 26, son of Sheikh Kabir Ahmed Pasha of Chiksa village, along with Sheikh Kabir Ahmed Pasha, 50, son of the late Abdul Aziz, Sheikh Shafiq Ahmed Pasha, 54, Sheikh Alamgir Pasha, 45, and Sheikh Farhad Pasha, 32. The girl’s father filed the case against Sheikh Mohsin Elin Pasha and his associates over the incident.
The schoolgirl’s father, Sakil Parvez, said: “Two months have passed since the incident and the police have not been able to recover my daughter. Nor are they detaining the accused in the case. The accused are moving about openly.”
He is seeking the attention of the Sunamganj superintendent of police, as well as the help of RAB and the detective branch, to recover his daughter.
The acting headteacher of Tahirpur Girls’ High School and College, Tarikul Islam Zubair, said: “A pupil of my school has been abducted — nobody from the family informed me about this, and I am hearing it from you for the first time. If the family informs me in writing, I will speak to the chairman of my institution and to everyone else and take the necessary steps.”
Tahirpur police officer-in-charge Faruk Ahmed said: “Efforts on our side to recover the schoolgirl and to bring the accused in the case within the law are continuing.”
