5 detained with pistol, bullets in Taltali

Local residents in Taltali, Barguna, detained five men after finding a homemade pistol, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine in their possession. Police later arrived at the scene and took them into custody.

They were detained Wednesday afternoon, August 19, from a rented house belonging to Limon Sikder in West Gabtoli village in the upazila.

According to police and local sources, Riaz Kazi of West Gabtoli village had rented his house to Limon Sikder. On Sunday, August 16, several unfamiliar individuals arrived quietly and took up residence there. For the past three days, they had reportedly been moving around various areas of Chhotobogi union. When their movements and conversations struck local residents as suspicious, several residents went to Limon Sikder’s rented house on Wednesday afternoon.

At that point, Jihad Khan, who was inside the house, allegedly brandished a pistol and chased the residents away. Local residents then gathered more people and, after chasing them down, detained Jihad Khan, 35; Hridoy Molla, 25; Anik Mojumder, 25; Limon Sikder, 28; and Jamal Mallik, 27.

Based on information provided by those detained, a homemade pistol, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine were recovered from Limon Sikder’s rented house.

Detained suspect Jihad Khan is the son of Alam Khan of Kanthaltali village under Lohagara police station in Narail district. Hridoy Molla is a resident of Amrajhuri village in Barguna Sadar upazila and the son of Md Moklesh Molla, while Jamal Mallik, from the same village, is the son of Shah Alam Mallik. Limon Sikder is a resident of Nishanbaria village in Patuakhali’s Kalapara upazila and the son of Liton Sikder, while Anik Mojumder, from the same village, is the son of Sanjay Mojumder.

Taltali police station Investigation OC Md Shariful Islam said police went to the scene after being alerted. With the help of local residents, five men were detained along with a homemade pistol, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine, and brought to the police station.
