The Education Ministry has nominated three professors from the University of Dhaka and Jahangirnagar University as syndicate members of the newly formed Dhaka Central University.
The nominations were announced in a notification issued on Monday, September 28, by the public general university wing and signed by Secondary and Higher Education Division Assistant Secretary Md Sultan Ahmed.
University of Dhaka marketing professor Md Morshed Hasan Khan and Jahangirnagar University pharmacy professor and treasurer Md Sohel Rana were nominated as distinguished professors. Jahangirnagar University geography and environment professor Nahrin Islam Khan was nominated in the eminent person category.
With the approval of the president and chancellor, they were nominated for two-year terms under sections 24(1)(d), 24(1)(e) and 24(3) of the Dhaka Central University Act, 2026.
The ministry order said the appointments were made under the relevant provisions of the law, which require the university syndicate to include two distinguished professors and one eminent person nominated by the chancellor.
The syndicate is the university’s highest executive authority. It oversees the institution’s operations, finances and property, as well as teachers, students, officers and employees.
The notification said copies of the order had been sent to the Dhaka Central University vice-chancellor, registrar and other officials for necessary action.
Dhaka Central University was established in February 2026 by affiliating seven government colleges in the capital, becoming Bangladesh’s fifth autonomous university. These are the government’s first appointments to the new university’s syndicate.
