Three more people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll for the year to 85, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a dengue bulletin issued Monday. A further 994 people were hospitalized with dengue over the same 24-hour period, covering 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday.
The bulletin said that among those hospitalized during the period, 117 were in Barishal division, 107 in Chattogram division, 158 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 97 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 126 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 215 in Khulna division, 71 in Mymensingh division, 76 in Rajshahi division, 23 in Rangpur division and four in Sylhet division.
The DGHS said a total of 29,923 people have contracted dengue so far this year. A further 862 people were released from hospital in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number who have recovered and returned home to 27,758.
The DGHS said the year’s overall dengue death toll now stands at 85, of whom 31 died this month. Two people died in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June and 36 in July.
