One person has died of dengue in the country in the past 24 hours. In the same period, 439 people were admitted to hospital with the infection. The previous day, Friday, no one died, but 181 people were infected. This takes the total number of cases in the 25 days of this month to 6,536, with 22 deaths.
The information was given on Saturday in a dengue press release sent from the health emergency operation centre and control room of the Directorate General of Health Services.
The release said that from 8 a.m. on Friday to 8 a.m. on Saturday, dengue patients were admitted to various hospitals as follows: 83 in Barishal division (outside the city corporation), 75 in Chattogram division (outside the city corporation), 77 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 41 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 46 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 41 in Khulna division (outside the city corporation), 19 in Mymensingh division (outside the city corporation), 26 in Rajshahi division (outside the city corporation), 30 in Rangpur division (outside the city corporation) and one in Sylhet division (outside the city corporation). In addition, 416 dengue patients were discharged from hospital in 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services said that from January this year until now, a total of 40 people have died of dengue and the total number of cases has risen to 12,640. Among the deaths, two were in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June and 22 in July. The highest number of dengue deaths this time, 20, has been in Dhaka division. Among cases, the highest number, 2,820, is in Barishal division. Of the total dengue cases so far, 61.4 percent are men and 38.6 percent women.
