The High Court has ordered an investigation, forming a three-member expert committee, into the finding of “harmful” microplastics in 26 toothpastes sold on the country’s market. The High Court bench of Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury and Justice Md Ziaul Haque passed the order at noon on Tuesday.
The committee has been asked to submit its investigation report to the court within 15 days. The Supreme Court lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun had earlier filed a writ over the matter.
A research report on 34 toothpastes of 19 brands sold on the country’s market was presented at ESDO’s head office in Lalmatia in the capital on Sunday, 26 July. The organisation conducted a coordinated nationwide study from July 2025 to June 2026.
