Police have recovered the body of an unidentified man from a canal in Bhabanagar village of Mahespur upazila in Jhenaidah.
Locals saw the body floating in the water under a road bridge over the Bhaoner canal in Bhabanagar village of the upazila on Sunday morning, July 26.
On being informed, Mahespur police reached the scene and recovered the body.
A local resident, Nazmul Hasan, said local people informed police in the morning after seeing a man’s body floating in the canal water. Police later came, recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Mahespur police station, Mehedi Hasan, said locals informed police after seeing a hand in the floating water. Going to the scene, the body of an unidentified man of about 50 was recovered.
He said it had not been possible to establish the dead man’s identity immediately. An investigation is under way to confirm the identity of the body and to establish the real cause of death. Details will be known after the post-mortem report is received.
