Even a little rain causes severe waterlogging in front of the main gate of Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila Parishad. With no effective drainage in place, knee-deep water collects at the gate, causing acute hardship for ordinary people seeking services as well as for officials and staff.
Locals said the long-standing problem made it difficult to enter the parishad whenever it rained, often forcing women, the elderly and children to wade through the standing water. Such a poor state at the entrance to an important government institution, they said, was a major obstacle to public service.
Those affected have called on the authorities concerned to arrange drainage quickly and make the entrance usable again.
Concerned residents have drawn the attention of the upazila and district administrations to the problem.
They said prompt and effective measures would reduce people’s suffering and allow government services to run more smoothly.
Baki Billah, the Sadar upazila engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department, said: “The matter is within our knowledge. Steps will be taken soon.”
