Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hosen has warned that dengue infections may increase further in July and August but said the health ministry, directorate, and government hospitals across the country have been placed on full alert.
He was speaking at a ceremony on Thursday (July 2) at Dhaka Medical College’s pathology department, where advanced microscopes and laboratory equipment were handed over.
The health minister said NS1 dengue test kits have been sent to government hospitals at the thana, upazila, and district levels for rapid detection. Adequate stocks of reagents, medical equipment, saline, and other medicines have been ensured.
“Hospitals in Dhaka and other major cities have been prepared to treat dengue patients. If the number of patients rises abnormally, additional beds will be activated. If necessary, mobile hospitals will be set up to provide treatment,” he said.
He emphasized that preparing hospitals alone is not enough — mosquito breeding sites must be destroyed. Awareness campaigns have been launched through local government bodies, elected representatives, volunteer organizations, educational institutions, and mosque imams from the union level upward.
He called on everyone to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean and said the health ministry, local government, and city corporations are working in coordination to control dengue.
