DHAKA — A government order has been issued directing upazila parishads to prepare special inspection rooms with modern amenities for sitting members of parliament, Junior Local Government Minister Mir Shahe Alam said Tuesday.
Speaking on the floor of parliament Tuesday after taking permission from Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Shahe Alam announced the new arrangement, which he described as good news for lawmakers.
He said the order, known as a GO, was issued to upazila executive officers (UNOs) on the advice of the local government and cooperatives minister.
Each room will include an attached bathroom and necessary furniture, the minister said. Because rules do not permit rooms to be allotted directly in the name of MPs, the spaces will be designated as “inspection rooms,” he said. MPs will use them for official work and to meet constituents face to face.
If an MP’s constituency covers more than one upazila, an office will be set up in each one, Shahe Alam said. He thanked the prime minister for issuing the directive and offered congratulations on behalf of all MPs.
With the order taking effect immediately, MPs were urged to contact their local UNOs to have the rooms prepared as quickly as possible.
