Jamaat-e-Islami held a July rally in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Friday morning to mark the second anniversary of the July uprising. Starting in front of Abahani field, the rally circled Jigatola, City College, Kalabagan and Dhanmondi Road 27 before ending back at Abahani field. People from various walks of life joined spontaneously, and the slogan “We’ll give our lives but not July” rang through the area.
At the concluding gathering, chaired by Dhanmondi thana Jamaat amir Mostafizur Rahman and conducted by secretary Mujahidul Islam Shahin, the chief guest was central executive council member and Lawyers’ Council president Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, with Dhaka Metropolitan South executive council member and zone director Professor Nur Nabi Manik as special guest. Speakers said that to protect the new Bangladesh won through the July uprising, the July Charter must be implemented immediately, and that an equitable society free of exploitation and fascism must be built by holding to the spirit won at the cost of the martyrs’ blood. They added that the sacrifice of the martyrs, the brave public and students had opened a new chapter in the country’s history, and that no conspiracy could erase the gains of July.
