Paradise: a place untouched by sorrow, suffering or death. It is an everlasting dwelling in which there is no grief, hardship, fear, sickness, death or imperfection. There every blessing will be complete, every moment joyful, and every inhabitant will live in everlasting peace and tranquillity. Allah the Exalted in the Quran, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the sound hadith, have described countless blessings of Paradise, which move a believer towards good deeds.

What will not be in Paradise

1. There will be no sorrow, fear or anxiety. Allah the Exalted says:

“Whoever submits himself to Allah and is a doer of good, he shall have his reward with his Lord. There shall be no fear upon them, nor shall they grieve.” (Surah al-Baqarah: verse 112)

2. There will be no sickness, weariness or exhaustion. Allah the Exalted says:

“No weariness shall touch them there, nor shall they ever be driven out of it.” (Surah al-Hijr: verse 48)

Another hadith says the people of Paradise will not even need sleep, because sleep is the result of weariness, and there will be no weariness at all in Paradise.

3. There will be no envy, rancour or enmity. The hearts of the people of Paradise will be entirely pure. No one there will harbour envy, hatred or enmity towards another. Allah the Exalted says:

“And We shall remove from their hearts all rancour.” (Surah al-A’raf: verse 43)

4. There will be no sin, indecency or idle talk. Allah the Exalted says:

“There they will hear no idle or sinful talk. They will hear only: peace, peace.” (Surah al-Waqi’ah: verses 25-26)

5. Satan and his whisperings will not be there. Paradise is an entirely pure dwelling. Satan will have no right of entry there and none of his promptings will exist. The people of Paradise will therefore remain safe and at peace for ever. Allah the Exalted says:

“[It will be said to them:] Enter it in peace and security. And We shall remove whatever envy is in their hearts; as brothers they will sit on couches facing one another. No weariness shall touch them there, nor shall they be expelled from it.” (Surah al-Hijr: verses 46-48)

6. There will be no old age and no death. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“O people of Paradise! You shall live for ever and never die; you shall remain in health and never fall sick; you shall remain young and never grow old.” (Muslim: 2837)

7. There will be no hunger, thirst, want or poverty. Allah the Exalted says:

“Indeed, there is no danger of your being hungry there, nor of being naked. And there you will not thirst, nor suffer the heat of the sun.” (Surah Taha: verses 118-119)

Paradise: a home of everlasting peace and complete happiness

Paradise is a dwelling in which every blessing will be without limit and everlasting. There will be no unrest, hardship, separation or imperfection there. The people of Paradise will attain the pleasure of Allah and receive from Him the highest honour and unending happiness. All the sorrows and hardships of the world will then be no more than a fleeting memory of the past to them.

The life of this world is fleeting, but the life of the hereafter is everlasting. We should therefore strive to become worthy of Paradise through faith, God-consciousness, prayer, recitation of the Quran, good deeds and following the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. May Allah the Exalted purify our hearts, grant us the ability to do good deeds, and by His boundless mercy accept us all as inhabitants of Jannatul Firdaus. Pray to Allah:

Transliteration: “Allahumma inna nas’alukal Firdausal a’la minal Jannah.”

Meaning: “O Allah! We ask You for the highest level of Paradise, Jannatul Firdaus.” Amin, ya Rabbal Alamin.
