Having raised his son to be a doctor and his daughter a nurse, a 54-year-old father has fulfilled his own unfinished dream by passing the SSC exam. Ali Akbar sat the 2026 SSC exam under the Technical Education Board from Nawhata Science and Technology High School in Rajshahi, passing creditably with a GPA-4.35. A resident of Perabaria in Bagatipara municipality of Natore, he has stirred curiosity among locals by passing the SSC at 54. His son, Mohammad Ismail Hossain, works as a medical officer at Bagha Upazila Health Complex in Rajshahi, and his daughter, Fatema Khatun, is a senior staff nurse at Rajshahi Islami Bank Medical College Hospital.
Ali Akbar said poverty had once forced him to give up his studies. Sacrificing his own dreams, he raised his children — but the dream of studying pursued him for 54 years. He said that amid extreme poverty he shouldered the family’s responsibilities and began working with his father, later moving to Rajshahi with his wife to work at Islami Bank Hospital and fund his children’s education. “Now that they are established, I began studying again. By God’s grace I passed the SSC with good results on my very first attempt,” he said. Addressing today’s students, he said age is no barrier to study; success requires determination, perseverance and regular practice.
His son, Dr Ismail Hossain, said his father had long wished to study and had sacrificed his own dream to establish them. “Now that his dream has come true, we are overjoyed. He will be enrolled in higher secondary.” Locals’ curiosity over Ali Akbar’s SSC pass has made him the talk of the village.
