A covered-van driver named Kazi Zafar (35) has been killed in a road accident in Cumilla’s Chouddagram. The accident occurred at 7am on Sunday (7 June) in the Amjader Bazar area of Batisa union of the upazila, on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Miabazar Highway Police sub-inspector (SI) Nazim Uddin confirmed the matter. The driver was the son of Zahirul Islam of Manikarhat village in the Borhanuddin thana of Bhola.
According to local sources, the covered van hit the back of a truck ahead of it while moving on the Chattogram-bound road on Sunday morning, seriously injuring the driver on the spot. Locals rescued him and took him to hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. A doctor at the emergency department of Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex said the seriously injured driver, Kazi Zafar, had died on the spot. SI Nazim Uddin of Miabazar Highway Police said: “We went to the scene, rescued the injured driver and sent him to hospital. The body will be handed over to relatives after completing the legal process.”
