Housewife dies of electrocution while cooking with rice cooker in Chuadanga

A housewife named Shaharan Khatun (40) has died of electrocution while cooking rice with a rice cooker in Almdanga, Chuadanga.

The accident took place on Sunday (2 August) morning in Asannagar village of the upazila.

Shaharan Khatun was the wife of Masud Hossain of the village.

According to local and police sources, Shaharan Khatun was preparing to cook rice in the rice cooker for the family in the morning. As she was plugging into the rice cooker’s switchboard, the board suddenly broke and fell open onto her hand. She was electrocuted in an instant and collapsed onto the floor. Relatives and locals later freed her from the electric wire wrapped around her hand, but she died before she could be taken to hospital.

Confirming the incident, Almdanga police station officer-in-charge (OC) Bani Israil said a woman had died of electrocution and that the necessary legal process was under way.
