Chuadanga food maker fined Tk 50,000 over adulterated production

The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority’s Chuadanga district office has fined a business named Ovi Food Products 50,000 taka on allegations of producing food in an unhygienic environment and using industrial salt and textile colouring. The fine was imposed during a drive at the establishment in the Chuadanga municipal area at about 2pm on Wednesday (10 June), conducted by district administration assistant commissioner and executive magistrate Mirza Shahidul Islam.

According to the drive, the establishment was raided on long-standing allegations of producing food in unhygienic conditions and using industrial salt and textile colour in food products, among other irregularities. Samples were collected and immediate testing found proof of the irregularities, after which the owner of Ovi Food Products, Ovi, was fined 50,000 taka — with an order of 10 days’ simple imprisonment in default.

Assistant commissioner and executive magistrate Mirza Shahidul Islam said samples of various food products were collected and tested during the drive, and the establishment was fined as a legal measure after the irregularities were confirmed. Bangladesh Food Safety Authority safe-food officer Sadhan Sarkar, Chuadanga municipality sanitary inspector Nargis Jahan and a team of Chuadanga Sadar police took part in the drive.
