Allegations have emerged that a grocer and mobile banking agent at Sumirdia Nilar More in Chuadanga’s municipal area was beaten and robbed of money, and later asked for a further Tk 100,000 in extortion.

At midday Friday, August 21, affected businessman Md Kawsar Ali filed a written complaint at Chuadanga Sadar police station, naming seven accused along with six or seven additional unidentified individuals.

The named accused are Tapu, Titas, Sajal, Munna, Iqbal, Sajib and Asha. The affected Kawsar Ali is a resident of the Sumirdia Clubpara area and runs a grocery and mobile banking agent business at the local Nilar More.

According to the complaint, on the evening of August 6, the accused Titas and Asha, citing the cost of using yaba, demanded Tk 5,000 from Kawsar’s younger brother, Sumon. When Sumon told his brother about this, the accused grew angry at Kawsar. Later, on the morning of August 20, the accused Tapu called Kawsar by phone and demanded Tk 5,000 in extortion. When Kawsar refused to pay, pressure was put on him.

At midday the same day, Tapu, Titas and Sajal came to the shop and forcibly took Tk 400 from the cash drawer, threatening to return again later. In the evening, the accused Asha came to the shop demanding the money, and at night Tapu again called demanding money over the phone.

Around 11:30 p.m., as Kawsar was preparing to close the shop, Tapu and Titas arrived, beat him, and forcibly took him on a motorcycle to the grounds of Kedarganj Adarsha School. According to the complaint, with the assistance of the school’s night guard, Sagar, they opened the school gate, took him inside, and beat and psychologically tormented him. There, Tk 14,300 was forcibly taken from him.

The accused threatened him, saying he must pay Tk 100,000 in extortion by the following Monday, or else sign a Tk 100,000 stamped document. They also threatened to seize his motorcycle if he failed to comply. He was released around 3:00 a.m.

Chuadanga Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said the victim’s written complaint has been received. The matter is being investigated seriously, and legal action is being taken.
