A tree-planting drive has been held in Gangni, Meherpur, under a program to plant 25 crore (250 million) saplings over five years, themed “A pledge to build a green Bangladesh.”
The drive was carried out on Saturday (June 13) at the Gangni Upazila Council premises on the initiative of the upazila administration. The event was chaired by Gangni Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Anwar Hossain.
Among those present were Gangni Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Motiur Rahman, Family Planning Officer Md. Mamunur Rahman, Gangni police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhaddid Morshed, Acting Upazila Forest Officer Masudur Rahman, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Mortuza Zaman Tamim, Gangni Municipality Assistant Engineer Md. Shamim Ahmed, Sandhani organization director Abu Jafar, BNP’s Gangni upazila president Alfaj Uddin Kalu, general secretary Abdul Awal, Upazila Jamaat secretary Maulana Jahangir Alam, former commissioner Alamgir Hossain, and people of various walks of life.

Teachers and students from various educational institutions and journalists from various media outlets were also present.
Speakers at the event said the importance of tree planting was immense for maintaining the balance of the environment and building a green Bangladesh. Later, on the initiative of the upazila administration, 100 saplings were distributed among students of various educational institutions. Everyone was called upon to plant more and more trees.
