The National Citizen Party (NCP) has sacrificed 25 cows to distribute Qurbani meat among underprivileged and helpless people in Gangni, Meherpur, for Eid ul-Azha. As part of the major charitable event, sacrifice and meat-packaging work went on from Thursday morning in the Gangni municipal kitchen-market area, and the meat was formally distributed at the Gangni Eidgah ground around 2 p.m.

The organisers said it was the first time a political party had arranged Qurbani on such a large scale in Meherpur district. The programme was carried out on the initiative of NCP central chief coordinator and Gangni municipal mayoral candidate Advocate Sakil Ahmad.

Funded by the Turkey-based international humanitarian organisation the Diyanet Foundation and managed by the NCP’s Gangni upazila unit, the programme distributed meat among about 2,100 underprivileged families. The Diyanet Foundation runs various humanitarian activities around the world, including Qurbani, relief aid, mosque construction, Islamic education and scholarships.

Those present included Diyanet Foundation representative Fatih Şimşek, interpreter Engineer Abdullah Al Galib, Jatiya Jubo Shakti central organiser Mujahidul Islam, and NCP Gangni upazila chief coordinator Abdullah Al Mahmud, along with district members and over a hundred party activists and volunteers.

Inspecting the programme, Advocate Sakil Ahmad said: “Our aim is to share the joy of Eid with people of all classes and professions. Our main goal is to bring a smile to the faces of the helpless and underprivileged. We plan to run such humanitarian activities on an even larger scale in future.” Members of the underprivileged families expressed satisfaction at receiving the meat and thanked the organisers.
