An eight-year-old boy has drowned in a pond in the town of Gangni upazila in Meherpur. The boy was a third-grade student at a local madrasa, the Gangni Talimul Quran Academy, and the son of a Singapore expatriate.
His body was recovered by locals at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday (29 June) from Haji Mohsin Ali’s pond in front of the madrasa. Gangni Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhaddid Morshed confirmed the death.
Locals said the boy and some friends were walking beside the pond when he slipped and went under the water. After a long search he was recovered and taken to the Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Two other children had drowned in the same pond before, local residents said.
