A housewife identified as Saleha Begum, 32, died by hanging following a family dispute at Gafargaon in Mymensingh, police said.

The incident took place around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (June 13) at her husband’s home in Kharua Boral village under Raona union of the upazila.

The deceased was the wife of Saddam Mia and the mother of two children.

According to local residents and police, the family had been in discord for several days. On Saturday morning, after her husband and children left the house following an argument, Saleha Begum tied a rope to a beam in her bedroom and hanged herself, police said. Her son, Tanvir, 7, came into the room, saw his mother hanging and cried out, drawing other household members to the scene.

On receiving the report, police recovered the body and sent it to the district morgue for an autopsy.

A.S.M. Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gafargaon police station, said: “We recovered the body after receiving the report in the morning. It was later sent to the morgue at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. The exact circumstances will be known once the autopsy report is received.” An unnatural-death case has been filed at the police station, he said.
