Gangni upazila in Meherpur marked July Uprising Day on Wednesday with a discussion calling for a Bangladesh built on the movement’s ideals.
The upazila administration organized the event at the Upazila Parishad auditorium under the theme, “We will build the country in the spirit of July; Bangladesh first.” Upazila Nirbahi Officer Anwar Hossain chaired the meeting.
Speakers paid tribute to those killed in the uprising and called for collective work toward democracy, justice, good governance and a country free of discrimination.
Participants included local administrative officials, police, leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party, teachers, students, civic representatives and representatives of political, social and cultural organizations.
