A 6-year-old boy was found floating dead in a pond in Bakshiganj, Jamalpur, on Wednesday, hours after he went missing while playing near his home.
The death occurred around midday on Wednesday (June 17) in Jhalarchar Paschimpara village of Sadar union, ward No. 5, in the upazila.
The boy was the son of a resident of the village.
According to local and family sources, the boy went missing around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday while playing near his home. After searching for him at length without success, his mother spotted him floating in a pond about 100 yards from the house.
Hearing the mother’s screams, neighbors rushed over, pulled him from the water and took him to the Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Confirming the incident, Bakshiganj police station’s officer-in-charge, Makbul Hossain, said: “Police visited the scene as soon as the report came in. As the family has lodged no complaint and it was an accidental death, further legal procedures are under way.”
