Man shot and hacked in daylight attack in Khulna

A 24-year-old man, Arif Sikder, has been shot and hacked with sharp weapons in an attempt on his life in Khulna in broad daylight.

The attack took place at about 2.30pm on Monday, 27 July, in front of Khulna Riverview Park at Mathabhanga in Labanchara police station area of the city.

The injured man, Arif Sikder, is the son of Abul Kalam Sikder of the area.

According to local residents and police, Arif Sikder was talking with two or three friends in front of Khulna Riverview Park at about 2.30pm on Monday. Six attackers wearing helmets arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire on him. When he fell to the ground after being hit on the right side of the chest, the attackers hacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons and left the scene quickly. People nearby then rescued him, bleeding, and admitted him to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

The officer in charge of Labanchara police station in the city, Syed Mosharraf Hossain, said several attackers wearing helmets arrived on two motorcycles and fired at Arif while he was talking with two or three friends in the afternoon. The bullet struck his right chest and glanced off. The attackers then hacked and wounded him indiscriminately and fled. The incident may have arisen from earlier enmity and from drugs, he said.
