Chhatra League has been accused of setting fire to a July memorial in Kushtia late Monday night, according to local reports.
The memorial stands in front of Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium. A video circulating on social media Tuesday showed a man praising Sheikh Hasina and saying he would not accept the July uprising, while promising to welcome her back to Bangladesh in December.
Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader Almas Hossain said the incident was planned and that organizers had warned police in advance. His allegation was not independently verified.
Additional superintendent of police Pranab Kumar Sarker, Kushtia Model Police Station officer-in-charge Kabir Hossain Matubbar and other officers inspected the site after the incident became known. Police said they would move quickly to arrest those responsible.
