Sajid Shahariar Sanam was a student of the 2021-22 academic year in the computer science and engineering department at Chittagong University. He was the son of Nasir Uddin of Raipura upazila in Narsingdi.

Sanam’s friend Saiful Islam said nine of them had come from Dhaka in the morning to visit Sitar hill. After the hill trip, Sanam went into the water at the river ghat while they were washing their hands and faces. He was submerged in a moment. They tried to rescue him themselves but could not.

Sanam was the only Chittagong University student among them; the others were friends from his school days and his local area. Navy and fire service diving teams began the rescue operation after news that Sanam had gone under at about 1.40pm. His body was recovered at about 4.40pm and taken to Kaptai hospital.
