At least six people, including five Bangladeshis, have been killed in a horrific road accident in Qatar. The tragic accident occurred in the country’s Al Shahaniya area on Sunday, June 21.
All five Bangladeshis killed were residents of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet district. They were Jasim Uddin, Jibal Uddin, Mostak Ahmad, Zubayer Ahmad and Kader Ahmad, all from Gachhbari village in the upazila. The other person killed in the accident was an Indian national.
According to family and local sources, the expatriates were travelling to their workplace in a pickup van on Sunday morning. On the way, in the Shahaniya area, the driver lost control and the vehicle met with the accident, killing all six occupants on the spot. After the accident, the bodies were recovered with the help of the local administration and kept in the morgue of a hospital in Qatar.
Ahmed Malek, general secretary of the ‘Jalalabad Association Qatar,’ said constant contact was being maintained with the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar. Arrangements were being made to send the bodies of the five expatriates home as quickly as possible after completing the necessary legal procedures.
The horrific accident has cast a shadow of grief over the victims’ families and their home area.
